Radio Programs or Channels
« on: January 21, 2009, 05:13:56 PM »

I just realized we don't have a topic (or if we do, I couldn't find it :)) on radio programs/channels we listen to or have heard of.  I'm fairly new to listening to radio, so I have only listened to 2 of these stations.  Please, add any links you have.

Thanks for sharing the links, as in all things on the "net" some are still there, some are not... FYI, anyone checking NON digital sources , like Short Wave? seems that this is a communication method that is dying off, due to the internet, well then, ponder a lack of fiber optic and etal for "Net" and go from there? it was not so long ago a fire on the east coast that took all of that out....

Blessings,

Shortwave has also been beat up by the lack of sun spots which has been affecting propagation, at least so I am told... I'm no expert on communications. Signals are not coming in as clear as they use to nor are they going out as far as they did. Depending on how things go we may see more shortwave in the future.

And then there is the simple fact that it is much easier to set up an Internet radio station than to get your show on shortwave, and it is a lot cheaper as well.

I was running through the shortwave channels last week and at 5000 there is a station that gives the time every minute using Universal Converted or some such thing. They also said they would give emergency updates. I guess I will wait for an emergency and then tune in.  ;D

WWV, The US Time Standard Station in Fort Collins, Colorado, broadcasts on 2.5MHz, 5.0MHz, 10.0MHz, 15.0MHz, and 20.0MHz so one or another of the frequencies should be hearable no matter what the conditions.

Here is a link to the website: http://tf.nist.gov/stations/wwv.html

Here is something. Awhile back there was mention of low power FM radio stations for things like neighborhoods. The FCC will not license individuals, but what about things like "northern smithvillage coop" to toss a name out there, Such a station could be used for more localized communications and provide 'spots' as the AFRTS would run in lieu of commercials (Armed Forces Radio and Television Service) While not part of aces or ares, this could be a viable option. just a thought.

Other wise sites like http://www.survivalplus.com/web_chat/index.htm use a proggy called webpal for a weekly radio sort of internet broadcast, last time I checked (About 10 to 15 months ago)
sadly this link seems to be broken, but the site http://www/survivalplus.com is still functional. Note this is Kurt Saxon's website, so make up your own mind.

Buckshot Radio
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/buckshot59

SHTF Radio
http://www.shtfradio.com/

Voluncast Network
http://voluncast.info/

I added these three stations/podcast networks today.  Finally got my head out of my rear end and listened to SHTF Radio plus Voluncast is new (well, almost new.  It's a roundtable discussion that will be recorded once a week, or so).  As for Buckshot's station, I just forgot to add the link.  :)
