Spring is here
Time to air out the house, get the garden tilled and the seeds planted. Time for maintenance on snow blowers before putting them away and on lawn mowers before breaking them out

Quite an impressive list you have there. I would make one more addition .... Wildwood Wisdom by Ellsworth Jaeger. This is one of the better "informational" books I have read lately. A copy of " The S.A.S. survival manual" would not be a waste of money either.

Larry Dean Olsen, Outdoor Survival Skills. Great very much how to with literally what you have right now is all that you have. In the 70's he took students into the Utah desert and they survived and then some. Politics aside, he also taught some things to Robert Redford for the movie "Jeremiah Johnson".

Here is a link that may prove interesting http://www.anasazi.org/larryolsen.html

Re: more resources to share, Herbal information
« Reply #8 on: March 10, 2010, 01:00:28 PM »

I was visiting another forum and the topic came up about good references for herbal treatments for health.

The poster's handle is 'Goatlady' and I have found her posts to be good stuff, she recommends these books:

The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook by James Green

Today's Herbal Health by Louise Tenney

Herbal Medicine; Expanded Commission E Monographs

Here are the books I have:

The Healthwise Handbook

The herbal handbook by David Hoffman,

Herbal medicine by Dian Dincin Buchman

Back to Eden authored by Jetrho Kloss

Modern Encyclopedia of Herbs by Joseph M. Kadans N.D, PhD

That being said, if you are going to use this information, please check  with your pharmacist if you are taking prescription meds and ask if using herbals are contraindicated.
And talk to your primary care provider as well.

In my home there are some herbs that can not be used by all family members.

Herbal Drug Interactions
« Reply #9 on: March 23, 2010, 07:08:08 PM »

Here are some websites and files that discuss herbal interactions with some prescription drugs:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/herb_All.html#A

http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/8513/31402.html

Some of these may contain duplicate information.  It's difficult to find information that is not stolen from one website, then posted to another.

http://www.swsbm.com/ManualsMM/HerbMedContra1.pdf

The late Herbalist Michael Moore of the SouthWest School of Botanical Medicine in Bisbee, Arizona put this document together.

He past away in Feb 2009.

The site over all is very good. The above link concerns Herbal/Medical contra indications.

Thanks Brenda for sharing.
