Spring is here
Time to air out the house, get the garden tilled and the seeds planted. Time for maintenance on snow blowers before putting them away and on lawn mowers before breaking them out

Social Evolution
« on: May 12, 2009, 12:41:59 PM »

I remember reading a article either in the late 70's or early 80's. This of course, was when there was still a Soviet Union and a Cold War. The author stated that there would probably never be another World War fought in Europe other than the on-going wars of proxy. He further stated that as time went by, the communist world would evolve to become more and more capitalist while the capitalist world would become more and more socialist. Eventually, they would both meet half way. If you look around, I'd say that his statements are becoming a fulfilled prophecy.

I've seen that report, Gunny. I think we're also seeing a case of "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

We're seeing more pressure for a world government, something I am vehemently opposed to. Back in the late 60s and 70s there was a "space opera" book series out of Germany called Perry Rhodan, the opening premise was that humans would not be able to unite until they faced some external threat that forced them to look at what united them. I read these books in the 90s and enjoyed them, I have to admit that right now we as a species aren't at the point where we could form a workable world government - there will always be those who want power.

I visited the Soviet Union (for the first and only time) in October 1989: it was very clear to me how dilapidated, defunct, and "bankrupt" the Soviet form of socialism had become.

I had been in Berlin earlier that (northern) summer. I could therefore understand something of the euphoria that surrounded the "coming down of the Wall" - between East and West.

In a lot of ways the socialist controls that have been gaining ground in the Western democracies has been put into place much more covertly than an all out "street revolution" (as which saw the establishment of the Soviet Union).

We now have a situation in my country (NZ) where social spending has surpassed the monies which (in my opinion) should have been spent on research and upping productivity.

At the end of the day: the more people that are dependent on the state for their livelihood - the easier it is to control them.

I never (for the life of me) ever thought I would see the U.S. begin to follow the path to socialism... But then again (to quote Canuck): there will always be those who want power.

FYI Evolution is science. When Social or Political get in the mix, Time to re water the Tree of Liberty. Or........ Relocate, raise barriers and the first to object on the other side of the barrier equals prime op for seeing how the defenses are going to work. Note LadyHawkes "Keep on the left side" was a physical advice, not a political one for the situation at hand. Okay weak attempt at movie geekdom and humor. Smiley
